METALLIC EPOXY APPLICATION PROCESS IN DFW
Quality application process in DFW and surrounding areas
Standard metallic epoxy application process is as follows. This process can take longer depending on the prep work required and the size of the job.
Day 1
1. We will begin by cleaning the surface of dirt and debris.
2. In all cases we diamond grind the entire surface to ensure proper adhesion of the coating.
3. Repairs will be performed as necessary. Cracks, damage, voids, and spalled concrete will be filled.
4. The moisture vapor barrier base color coat is applied and allowed to dry overnight.
Day 2
1. The floor is sanded to remove any foreign objects that might have fallen into the base coat while it was still wet.
2. Metallic epoxy colors are applied to the floor and allowed to dry overnight.
Day 3
1. The floor is sanded to remove any foreign objects that might have fallen into the metallic epoxy while it was still wet.
2. A clear top coat is applied to the metallic epoxy in either satin or glossy finish.
48 to 60 hours after application of top coat you can start to move items back into area. Be careful for several days while the coating finishes curing.
Things That Make These Floors Unique!
Due to the environment of your home it is impossible to not have some imperfections crop up while installing the metallic epoxy finish. Some of the things that can be a problem are:
1. Your heating and air ducts can have debris fly out while they are on. We do sand the surface but this can still leave an imperfection in the finish.
2. Insects…..if they have the opportunity to land in this new finish before it has time to dry, it will leave an imperfection in the finish. One contractor had a mouse get stuck in the wet epoxy.
3. Other unknowns in the air can cause “fish eyes” or “moon crater”
4. “Comets” This is where the epoxy is flowing and got “stuck” on something which caused the epoxy to flow around it making it look like a comet streaking across the sky with its tail behind it.
Most of the time these imperfections are not even noticeable and precautions will be taken to minimize contaminants from getting into the epoxy but since we are not dealing with a “clean room” environment there are no guarantees. However, even with these imperfections you are getting a truly one of a kind floor that has it’s own little character!
